Programs & Services
The LDCBA serves as the lead business and economic development contact for life sciences companies interested in doing business in the Lawrence or Douglas County, Kansas. The LDCBA seeks to serve the needs of life sciences companies by providing the following programs and services:
1. Life Sciences Incubator. A 20,000 sq. ft. facility, located on the campus of the University of Kansas (KU), that will consist of a mix of wet lab space, offices and flexible space to support a wide range of life sciences research, operations and activities. Tenants are expected to range from university “spin-offs” to emerging life sciences companies.
2. Business Development Services. Through its strategic partnership with the Lawrence Regional Technology Center, the LDCBA will provide business development services to life sciences companies including:
- Market Research and Analysis
- Competitor Research and Analysis
- Business Plan Writing
- Strategic Planning
- Business Model Development
- Sales and Marketing Strategy and Tactics
- Operations Management
- Financial Strategy
- Financial Management
- Accounting and Bookkeeping
- Business Valuation
- Capital Acquisition
- Exit Planning
3. Collaborative Research Projects with the University of Kansas. The goal of this program is to help life sciences companies find and contact KU researchers with the appropriate expertise to support a specific company research project. The LDCBA has partnered with the KU Center for Research to develop a straight-forward process for companies to use in entering into a collaborative research project with the university. It also hired a full-time business professional at KU to work directly with companies that are interested in collaborating with the university and help them find the resources and expertise they need. 4. Recruitment and Relocation Assistance. The LDCBA helps life sciences companies locate labs, offices, and manufacturing operations in the Lawrence area. The LDCBA is developing several options for life sciences companies needing facilities including KU labs, the planned incubator, existing buildings and the city’s existing business park.
The LDCBA’s programs and services are aimed at helping:
- Start-up companies commercialize KU life sciences research
- Emerging and established life sciences companies access research, education, and human resources located at KU and in the Lawrence community
- Life sciences companies locate their operations to the local area
- Life sciences companies access early-stage business development resources (e.g. business plan development, strategic planning, capital fundraising, etc.) through its partnership with the Lawrence Regional Technology Center
- Life sciences companies by providing them a home in its life sciences incubator
